Why Church? pt1
Matthew 16:18 NLT
18 Now I say to you that you are Peter (which means ‘rock’), and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it.
Acts 2:41-42 NIV
41 Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day. 42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.
1. INSTRUCTION
“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching…”
1 Cor 10:12
“So, if you think you are standing
firm, be careful that you don’t fall!”
2. CONNECTION
“They devoted themselves to… fellowship, to the breaking of bread…”
You are not called just to believe but to belong.
The church is a body, not a building; an organism, not an organization.
1 Cor 12:27
Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.
Col 1:18
And he is the head of the body, the church
3. COMMUNION
They devoted themselves…to prayer.”
We will never exercise the POWER of the early church until we exemplify the PRAYER of the early church.
The church was never meant to REPLACE your relationship with Jesus, the church exists to
REINFORCE your relationship with Jesus. If that isn’t happening, you’re doing church wrong.
Ephesians 5:25-27 NIV
25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26 to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, 27 and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.
Great information!
